From playful pelmets to a bay window dressed with a bespoke bent track and cut velvet trim, this North London project shows what's possible when every room gets exactly the treatment it needs.
North London: Children's Rooms and a Master Suite
The Brief
A North London family approached us to fit window treatments throughout their newly renovated home, working alongside their interior designer to bring together style and practicality across very different rooms. Two children's bedrooms needed something playful and durable enough for daily use. The master bedroom's large bay window needed to do considerably more: privacy, blackout, and a level of finish that matched the quality of the rest of the home. It's the kind of brief we like, one house, two very different sets of needs, both requiring the same level of care.
Design & Materials
Children's Rooms, Roman Blinds with Decorative Pelmets: We selected classic Roman blinds in fabrics that coordinated with each room's colour scheme, then designed custom pelmets with vibrant contrast borders to give the windows a lively, considered finish. The blinds adjust easily for daylight and full privacy when needed, practical enough for a child's room without losing the design intention.
Master Bedroom, Bent-on-Site Dual Tracks: The bay window called for a dual track system, one for a sheer voile, one for a blackout curtain, bent on site to follow the bay's exact curve. The voile provides daytime privacy and soft light diffusion. The blackout curtain, finished with a cut velvet trim, adds warmth and a quietly luxurious touch that sits comfortably with the rest of the room's furnishings.
Technical Execution
The bay window's dual track was the most demanding part of the project. Bending both tracks on site, rather than fitting an off-the-shelf curve, meant the finished result followed the bay's geometry precisely, with both layers operating independently and without catching. In the children's rooms, the pelmets were aligned with the same care as the master bedroom's more elaborate treatment, nothing in this project was treated as the "simple" job. We coordinated fitting around the family's schedule throughout, working to minimise disruption to the household.
The Result
Playful and Elegant: The children's rooms now have window treatments that are fun and functional in equal measure, while the master bedroom carries the quiet luxury the client wanted, the velvet trim in particular elevates a straightforward curtain into something genuinely special.
A Precise Fit Throughout: The bent-on-site bay tracks in particular ensured a result with nothing that looked approximated or off-the-shelf.
Client Satisfaction: The family were delighted, particularly with the decorative details, the pelmet borders in the children's rooms and the velvet trim in the master bedroom, which gave the whole project a bespoke quality that felt personal to their home.
Conclusion
This project is a good example of how the same house can hold two very different briefs, a playful children's room and a refined master suite, and how the right window treatment, made and fitted specifically for each space, pulls a whole home together rather than treating every room the same way.
